Voice Isolation for Voice Agents

· Ronan McGovern

One of the big issues for voice agents is getting confused by speech in the background. An airport announcement, a television, or somebody talking nearby can end up being treated as part of the conversation.

With Dialt, you can now enable background speaker suppression to reduce that background talk, TV, radio, or announcement voice.

In the demo, I start a call and play some speech on my phone in the background. I ask the assistant to count to ten, and then to tell me the capital of France. It follows those requests while the other speech is playing.

You can turn suppression on in the Playground under Advanced. You can also allow the agent to change suppression during the call, so it can turn it on when there’s competing speech and turn it off again when it’s no longer needed.

This is currently in beta and off by default. Suppression can also remove quiet words from the caller, so it’s something to try out in the conditions where your agent will actually be used.

You can check it out yourself in the Dialt Playground.
